Therapy for Personal Growth - The Myths

Only damaged people do this

We all have baggage. Many people do therapy specifically to shed this. Few admit just how much and how often. In my experience the happiest people have done the most!

I will be judged and shamed

 The capacity of the practitioner to hold a safe enough space for you to bring all parts of you to the room is the mark of a great practitioner. Only when all of you are present – can firm intentions for something to be different be made

I will need plenty of tissues

Perhaps but tears of laughter at the absurdity of life and sheer ridiculousness of the human condition is a really beautiful part of the job

I will feel uncomfortable

The expertise of the practitioner to ensure the right balance of stretch and repair (like building muscle at the gym) is the stuff of personal growth. This should not happen if the space is being correctly held for you

I will be made to feel less than because the ‘expert’ is the ‘expert’

The ideal space is when the practitioner gets themselves out of the space so you can bring all of you into it, and feel acceptable in your messy humanity

If I want to feel better, I will need to divulge things I’d prefer to not discuss  

Not all all. Silence and presensing in high vibe spaces can be all that is needed.
